NO SHORTAGE OF REFEREES
ASSOCIATION ELECTS ITS NEW OFFIGERS The suggestion that there wouid not be sufficient rugby referees m the Horowhenua district this Season was exploded at the annual meeting of the Horowhenua Referees' Association on Tuesday night, when approximately 25 referees and interested persons signified their intentiOn of taking an active part in the control of the game. This is thought to be one of the best responses the association has ever had. Last sea'son the position was extremely difficult and there Were often two referees below the numbet required on the one Saturday. In the southern portion of the union's district there were two referees for five teaffis, . which meant that three referees from the northern end had to jO'Urhey south at a time when travelling was heavily restricted. It is thought that with the travel restrictions by road now lifted,
md sufficient referees, the situasion'will be greatly eased during :he coming season. The officers elected for the msuing • season are:— President: Mr. J. A. Zuppicich; vice-presi-ient: Mr. E. Lacey; secretary: Mr.. I. D. McFarlane; committee: Messrs. B. Boyd and W. Williams;; appointment board: Mr. J. D. Mc-; Farlane ; delegate to Horowhenua Rugby Union: Mr. C. E.' Wiseley, It was decided to hold f ortnightly meetings ' commencing on Mnndav. Aoril 21 .
