Aloohan, M.I\, for Petone, as a Parliamentary Lnder-seeretarv, has been made b\ ihe Frime Minister who said this evening that it had been assenled to b/ today's caueus of the Parliamentary Labour Part.v. Mr. Moehau will replaee Mr: J. Thorn who was defeated at the General Klection in Xovember, as Parliamentary Under-secretary to the Printe Minister. No steps were taken by the caueus to iill the vaeaucv in the Pabinet caused by the death of Mr. Fullivan. Mr. Fraser said several other ponding ap pointnienls would also not be decided immediately. The caueus concluded in the late afternoon but anotlier is to be held on Tuesday, May 13. Feeling reference to tho sevviees given by the late Mr. Sullivan was made at the caueus by the Prinie Minis ter who referred to the great loss which had been suffered by the countrv, Pabinet, Labour Party and City of Christchurch in particular. Paucu--passed a resolution of sympathv with the relatives of Mr. Sullivan and stood in silencc for a few moments as a mark of respect. Discussing the business of the caueus the Prinie Minister said questions hal j been discussed relating.to the economie situation of the countrv as alfeeting bolh the primary and secondarv indus- J tries. The Minister of Defence, Hon. F. Jones, has also reported on his visit to Now ZeaJand Oecupation Forces in Japan. Caueus also carried a motion expressing appreciation of the serviees of Mr. Thorn to the Labour Party and wishing him everv suceess in his new appoint ment of TTigh Commissioner for New Zealand in Canada. Caueus had voiced , ils ennfidence that he would represenr New Zenland with dignity and ability.
