LOCAL AND GENERAL

Weekend Sport blk Although weather coaditjons favoured summer sport, activities in that directio'n over the weekend were very small. The tennis season is quickly drawing to a close and few members were on the courts on either Saturday or Sunday afternoons. However, the bowlers showed more enthusiasm, and the green was well attended over the weekend. Winter sports are now coming to the forefront and over the weekend both football and basketball activities were very noticeable. On Saturday afternoon friendly football matches were played at Shannon, when a third grade team met and were defeated by a Tokomaru team, the juniors defeated a team from Rahui and the seniors were defeated by an Otaki team at Otaki. Practice occupied the remainder of the weekend. The basketball girls opened their season on Saturday, when they defeated a Foxton, team, and the local girls were hard at practice on Sunday afternoon.
