Larkman, chief engineer to Sliackleton's 1914-16 trans- Antarctic expedition, when commenting on the reported Unitcd States claims to v&st territorv in the Antarctic. "Arany other nations have carried out explorhtory work in the Antarctic. Every expedition has benefited in some measure. from the experiences and discover'ies of previous eixpeditions. The work done in many cases overlaps. earlier. work, and in all cases reinforces work alreadv done. ' ' Arr. Larkman added that work in the Antarctic would gain in efficieney, safetv and economy if nations cooperated under the coordinating control of the scienti/ic seetion of Uneseo.
