RAIN AT THE UKES
WELLINGTON, April 14. Showers fell at ' Waikaremoana thrdughout today and after nightfali there was steady rain at Taupo but not enough to affect the lake levels at that stage. Indications late tonight, howe\ er, were that steady rain was Jeveloping in the middle' distriets of the North Island. Lake Taupo and Lake AVailcaremoaua both had rain during the weekend. liall an inch of rain fell at Taupo and the reuding taken tliere at 9 a.m. today shovved that the lake level was constant at 1172.75 feet. The consumption of' power in the North Island for Ihe week ended midnight 011 Sunday, was 20,950,000 uuits and as the allocation was 21,790,06>i) units, this represented a saving of 84,000 units. The past week's figurCs, however, include the Easter Monday holiday when there was Jittle industrial deniand. Those for the present week should give a better idea of the effectivcness of the measures introduced by the supply authorities to ,reduee consumption. «
