ODDFELLOWS' LODGE

FORTNIGHTLY MEETING The usual fortnightly meeting of the Loyal Victoria Diamond Lodge, ' M.U.I.O.O.F,, %as held reeently and was well attended. The N.G., Brother D. Newall, presided. Two members' wives were initiated into the lodge as honorary members. At, the eonclusion of the business, the N.G. called op. I.P.D.G.M., Brother G. D. Harris, to present Past Grand Jewels to Brothers H. S. Powell,. A. A. Hanson, F. O. Malcolm and L. G. Court. In making the presentations, Brother Harris referred to the valuable and untiring service | given the lodge 4by the recipients. | In appreciatioii of that service the lodge had decided to make the i presentations. Brother - Powell, who is a member of the Loyal New- j town Lodge, was also made an hon- ; orary life member of the Loyal ! Victoria Diamond Lodge. After i lodge honours had been accorded the recipients, they each thanked the lodge for its flne gesture. A function arranged for the unveiling of the Honours Board to those members who served in the Boer War, World War I and the late war was well attended by members and friends. Visitors from Taihape and Wellington were also present. During the evening songs by Miss G. Hesp were much appreciated. Brother G. D. Harris introdueed the District Grand- Master, Brother R. Wickens, and called on him to perform the ceremony. In his brief but impressive speech, Brather Wickens spokeof the debt all owed to those who rendered active service in the war, and added thut in all reverence should the memory of the fallen be gratefully cherished. After recit-in-g the- lodge prayer, which was introdueed during the late war, the Grand Master unveiled the board, calling on those present to stand in silence in rbspect to the fallen. The singing of *the National Anthem nlosed the ceremony. The board was made and presented to the lodge by Brother H. S. Powell. '
