Personal Misses L. • Beech and J. Pigott were Shan'non visitors to Auckland over Easter. Sister MacDonald, the district nurse, has resumed her duties after spending her annual leave in the north. Miss M. Coley spent the Easter weekend at Dannevirke, where she was the guest of Mr. and Mrs. K. Jamieson. Mr. a'n.d Mrs. J. T. Bovis have returned home after spending a" few days with their daughter and son-in-law at Longburn. Mr. and- Mrs. Needham, of Wellington, have returned to their, home after being the guests of Mr. and Mrs. R. Roberts, Vogel Street. Recent visitors to Shannon were Mrs. Antley, Miss V. Just, Mr. M. R. Blyth and Mr. M. G. Martin, of Lower Hutt, and Mr. and' Mrs. Stratford and child, of Matamau. They were the guests of Mr.- and Mrs. Tim Stratford, Plimmer Terrace. Dance at Ihakara The Farmers' Queen Committee held a very successful dance in the Ihakara Hall on Wednesday evening. The hall was well filled and it is expected that the committee will benefit to a great extent from the support given by the dancing public, both of Ihakara and Shannon. •
Beetle Afternoon There was a very good attendance at a beetle afternoon arranged by Mrs. J. T. Bovis, in Laurvig's Hall on Wednesday. The prizewinners were Mesdames S. L. Graham and C. Newton. Competitions were won by Mesdames C. G. Wishart and I. Peni. The proceeds of the afternoon were handed over to the Town Queen Committee. War Memorial Hall At a meeting of the Shannon and district War Memorial Hall Committee last week, the secretary, Mr. R. Hook, advised that to date the sum of £324 9s 9d had been received in donations. Many more promises of donations have been made to the sectlon canvassers, and those concerned would appreciate receipt of donations in time for a Press report of donations, which will be made in the near future. Stray Dogs in Borough Stray dogs are causing much concern within the borough, so much so, that wheri the matter was brought before the Shannon Borough Council at a recent meeting it was decided that more drastic action would have to be taken on dogs which were allowed to wander throughout the town. Many of the dogs which stray about the streets, both day and night, have been registered, and owiiers are requested to keep thern under control otherwise they may be impounded. Football Team for Saturday Although the present weather conditions favour summer sport, the local football club is making preparations for its forthcoming season, and a match will be played on Saturday between a local senior team and an Otaki team at Otaki. The Shannon team will be selected from the following players: — Rahihi, Nepia, Williams, Allison, Cameron, Cole, S. Chester, E. Chester, Ellison, Sparanzo, Aitchison, Pederson, Gadsby, M. Moynihan, Pigott, Robinson, Purcell, Rolston, Richardson, Luke, T. Pratt and T. Keriona. Players are advised that the bus will leave Bob Vinsen's shop at 1.15 p.m.
