PARAPARAUMU NOTES

Brilliant sunshine favoured the Easter holidays and the beaches were crowded with holidaymakers. The hardier ones enjoyed bathing, but more were to be seen on the bowling greens and tennis courts. The A.T.C. boys were in camp and gave an excellent display of fireworks one evening. The churches were filled to capacity for the Easter services. * The Paraparaumu Women 's Institute held its annual meeting recently, presided over by Mrs. Hornsby. Mrs. Cumberworth congratulated the institute on its year's work, and spoke a few words on institute matters. Mrs. Cumberworth was presented with a spray of flowers. One was also presented to Mrs. Hornsby, 'retiring president, and to Miss Clarkson, secretary, in recognition of their work during the year. An election for officers for the year was then conducted, Mrs. Tyson and Mr. R. Fowler acting as tellers. Those elected .were: — President: Mrs. Hadfield; secretary: Miss Clarkson; treasurer: Miss R. Cromb; committee: Mesdames Hornsby, Delahunty, Mclsaac, Caterer, Hickson, Weston and Wright. Mrs. Hadfield was congra'tulated on being elected, and was presented witb a spray of flowers and the necklace. This necklace was a present from the sister institute in England (Hillengdon), to be worn by the president each year. Afternoon tea was served and the meeting concluded with the singing of the National Anthem. One or two slight frosts have been, experienced in the district of recent date.
