BIG RECOVERY IN BRITAIN'S CROPS

Eeceived Wednesdav, t p.m. LONDON, April 9. A big recovery in « Britain's erops from the ell'ects of winter, with the bulk of the autumn wheat being saved, is now reported from the agricultural areas. It is stated that sonve seveneighths of autumn sown cereals, mostlv wheat, appear to have survived and many erops have niade a striking improvement during the past fortnight. The sowing of spring wheat will be a ganible but one worth taking. In areas such as Yorkshire, however, spring cultivation is still at a standstill with farmers standiug by waiting to get to work as soon as the land dries. Generallv speaking spring sjowings are one mouth behind haiul with a leeway of anytliing up to five months to niake up on cultivation work. Some farmers are planning for four men to work in shifts on two tractors throughout every possible liour of daylight and into the night if necessary.
