"Wc sat on dill'erent sides of the Housc, but throughout thc time I have been in Parliament I have learnt to rcspect and esteem Mr. Suliivan more and more every year, and I feei deeply grievcd at the loss of a personal friend, whose warm-hearted friendship I valued very highly, " said Mr. Hollaud. "Mr. Suliivan gave his wliole life to the service of the public in the trade union movement, in local government and for the past 11 years as a Minister of tlio Crown, during which time he has administered mokt of the principle portfolios for his Government. Tn the late Mr. Suliivan the manufacturing industries had a stauncli advocate and a loyal friend, while in the House itself no one could cianu a wider or more universal popuiarity. ' During all the yeais I have Known liirn he has at all times maintained the best traditions oi the liigli oifices which he has held, and in his passing New Zealand has suffered a heavy loss of oue whose place will be very hard to 1111.
