WOMEN'S INSTITUTE
. ANNUAL MEETING' Mesdames Kempha'ri and Pene, of Koputaroa, representatives of the federation, were present at the 20th annual meeting of the Shannon Women's Institute. " The secretary's report showed another successful year, and in moving its adoption, fthe president, Mrs. J. A. Easton, thanked all officers and members who had given generously of their time in helping towards the successful working of the institute. The balance sheet presented by tfie treasurer, Mrs. C. Stern, revealed that the finances of- the institute were in a healthy position in all departments. The holding of the 21st birthday party was discussed, and it was finally decided that it be held in the Parish Hall on May 8. It was agreed to send food parcels to Britain each month, members to bring suitable articles to the meetings. The silver cup for the most points gained in competitions during the year was awarded to Mrs. J. Sinclair, with Mrs. Veale ru'nnerup. Mrs. Sinclair also won the special prtee donated by Mrs. A. E. Burling for a thrift competition. Gn the motion of Mrs. D. Fitzgerald it was agreed to send a telegram of congratulations to Mrs. L. Horne, secretary of the Dominion, Federation, on ' her 'appointinent as representative to the Assoeiated Countrywomen of the World meeting at The Hague. The monthly competition wi'nners were as follows: — Single bloom: Mrs. A. E. Tremewan 1, Mrs. C. Veale 2, Mrs. D. Fitzgerald 3. Cluster: Mrs. C. Stern, 1, Mrs. J. Sinclair 2, Mrs. D. Fitzgerald 3. Shruta: Mrs. Tremewan 1, Miss J. Radford 2, Mrs. Sinclair 3. Beans: Mrs. Veale 1, Mrs. Sinclair 2, Mrs. J. Swindlehurst 3. The election of officers for . the ensuing year resulted as follows: — President:" Mrs. W. Easton; vicepresidents: Mesdames L. Stratford, and M. Parr; secretary: Mrs. R. Roberts (re-electpd) ; treasurer: Mrs. C. Stern, (re-elected) ; committee: Mesdames D. Fitzgerald, R. P. Lester, T. Bell, J. A. Easton, J. Swindlehurst, W.; Radford,-- S. Pedersen and R. Lahg; press correspondent: Mrs. I. F. Leng-Ward; officers in charge of saies tables : Mesdames T. Beli and W. Radford. A delightful afternoon tea was served by the hostesses, Mesdames Rees, R. P. Lester and B. Hateley.
