COMING-OF-AGE PARTY

OPIKI CELEBRATION To celebrate the coming-of-age of their elder daughter, Gwenfra, Mr. and Mrs. F. Biddlecombe, of Poplar Road, Opiki, gave a dance in the Coronation Hall, Palmerston North. Over 80 friends a'nd relatives from Wellington, Feilding and the surrounding districts were present. Mrs. Biddlecombe received her guests wearing a black ensemble, piped with white, and she carried a spray of red gladiolj and maidenhair fern. She was assisted by her daughter, Gwenfra, who chose a frock of salmon pink embossed silk crepe, and wore a spray of cream gladioli and maidenhair fern. Dancing was enjoyed to music supplied by Mr. Anderson. Items were given by Miss Medway and Messrs. B. and I. Moar. Mr. Cheyne, of Kumeroa, an old friend of the family carried out the duties of M.C. and toastmaster, and in an apprcpriate speech proposed the toast to the guest o'f honour. In her fitting reply, Gwenfra thanked all who had helped to make the evening such a success, and for the beautiful gifts which were on display. She also extended thanks to her parents for the party. A toast was then proposed to Mr. and Mrs. Biddlecombe. Her father handed Gwenfra the traditional key. A toast was proposed to Mrs. Hobbs, grandmother of the guest. Mrs. Hobbs is 80 years of age. Mr. F. Matthews, her eldest grandson, replied. The cake, which was made by the guest of honour's mother and iced by Mrs. Woods, of Pohangina, was then cut.
