MARCHING COMMITTEE

general meeting held a general meeting of the committee of the Shannon marching teams was heldAn the supper room of the Druids' Hall on Tuesday evening. The president of the parents' committee, Mrs. W. R. Clough, occupied the chair and there was an excellent attendan.ce of parents and team' members. In opening the meeting, Mrs. Clough said- thafe she was very. pleased to see such a large gathering. The first business of the meeting was to appoint a vicepresident and secretary to the parents' committee. The nommation of Mrs. N. Woodmass as vice-president was a populqr one, and.her appointment was carried without further nominations. Mrs. C. Stern was appointed to the position of secretary. A rather lengthy discussion followed in connection with the catering arrangements for the visiting teams who would be in Shannon for the carnival gala day on Easter Saturday. Arrangements were left in the hands of the women 's committee. At this juncture Mrs. Clough called upon Mr. T. S. Downes, the local representative on the association, to present two msdals to the most improved girls from the two teains.

In making the presentation, Mr. Downes said that. it had been a very difficult decision. to make, as every girl in the teams had worked I very hard and had shown considerable improvement since the teams j were formed. However, he had | been in discussion with the coaches and had fhially decided to award the medals to Miss Lila Lee, of the Broadway team, and Miss Doreen Ritchie, of the Premier team. Mr. Downes then asked the leaders of the teams to make the presentation. The selectioh of the girls was a popular one, and the teams joined to give the lucky girls a great ovaiton. At this stage the opportunity was taken to remark on the excellent work done by the two coaches, Messrs. Don Cole and Stan Chester, and the leader of the Broadway team asked Mr. Cole to accept a fountain pen and eversharp pen- | cil as a mark of appreciaticn from ! the members of her team. Miss Stern also presented- a fruit dish to Mrs. A. Pigott for the assistance she had given the team in connection with their uniforms. On behalf of the Premier team, their leader, Miss N. Peach,- asked, ■ Mr. Chester to accept a leather travelling case as a small gift and a token of gratitude from the girls of the team. Mrs. Pigott and .{ Messrs. Cole and Chester suitably I replied. I A most enjoyable supper, served I by the ladies and girls of the ! teams. concluded a very successful meeting.
