TRAWLERS COLLIDE; ONE GOES DOWN

DUNEDIN, Apru 2. . Shortly after 0 o'cloek this morning two Port Chalmers trawiers eollided about half a ruile ofE Cape Savnders, (Jtago Peninsula, and one of tho boats, the 42 foot Kosina, sank ip flve niinntes. The crews of the two boats eseaped without injury although Mr. RBain, one of the two men aboard the ilosina, spent an uncomfortable 15 minutes in the water before he was picked up. The fcltina, the other trawler, wa? towed into Port Chalmers and is extensively damaged.. The other. member of the erew of the Kosina was Mr. 1. C. Goskins, whiie in the ytina at the time of the mishap were Mr. A, Annan (owner) and Mr. H, Lavis, • Both trawiers have been operatxng from Port Chalmers and at an early ho.nr the Kosina was passing Cape Saunders on hei way .south to • the JSTuggets fishing grounds. The Stina was returning to port when they eollided. A passing trawler was signalled and she towed the Stina into port. A marine inquiry will be opened in Dunedin tomorrow morning, Both 'boats involved in the collision were built at the yard§ of Miller and Tonnage, of Port Chalmers, _ The 48ft, trawler Stina which was built in 1935 was used on patrol duties at Taiaroa Head during the war.
