WELLINGTON, April 1. That road transport would be used to supplement restricted rail services was anuounced today by the Minister ot Transport (Mr. O'Brien), who said trucks belonging to road operators throughout the North lsland would be hired by the Ifailways Department to haul freights that could not be handled on restricted railway services. Though the full volume of normal traffic could not be handled, it is expected that all pcri.shable goods accepted by the ra'J ways on tlie restricted basis could be expeditiously handled. The Minister thanked the road transport industry for its ready cooperation through the ex cellent organisation of the industry in the Road Transport Alliance and th-. New Zealand Carriers' Federation.
