ENGLISH CRICKETERS SAY GOODBYE
AUCKLAND, March 31. "It has been a very pleasant tour and we have enjoyed it immensely, " \Said Major H. Howard, manager of the English crieket team, in an interview tonight. ".We are all sorry that we could not have seen more of New Zealand. ; ' Major Howard expressed pleasure at the great • interest .sliown by New Zealanders as a whole in the matehes played by his team. This was evideneed by tlie large attendances and augured well for the future of crieket in the Dominion. They knew of the efforts being made to coach young players in New Zealand, which were sure to have beneficial results. "I would like to thank all New Zealand people for the many kindnesses bestowed upon us, " said Major Howarfl in conclusion. "We are very sorry to leave. ' ' Hammond endorsed Major Howard 's remarks. "We have had a wonderful tinie," he said, "and all of us are regretting our departure so soon. " Mr. D. E. Wanklyn, chairman of the New Zealand Crieket Council, made presentations to- both Major Howard and Hammond. The latter was Npresented with a Maori carved cigarette box « and Major Howard with Maori carved hook ends. The English team will lcave for Svdnev by air tomorrow morning.
