AUCKLAND, March 30. Wfnners of the Plunket Shield this season, the Auckland team gave a very poor display in the xmatch against England at Eden Park on featurday, the visitors winning by an innings and 65 runs. Rarely has such a debaele in big cricket been seen on the ground. On the first day England scored 197 runs, for the loss o| seven wickets in 2£ hours' play. Forty ininutes sufficed to complete Engla,nd's innings on Saturday morning wliieh closed for 240 runs after 190 minutes' b'atting. Both Auckland innings developed into processions, the team being dismissed in the first innings for $5 after 114 minutes a,nd for 90 .in the seeond innings after 106 minutes., There were circumstaxiees, however, which niade Auckland 7s showing excusable to soine extent. These. were the state of the wieket and the. English bowlers ' abUity to exploit it. Compton.pu.t up a fine double performance by scoring 97 not out and taking 11 wickets for 49 runs. Ikiu fielded brilliantly in the. slips, accepting five eatches. The gate takings were £600 and £2000 respectively with bookings expected to .reach the £3000 rnark. Scores: — ENGLAND.
