APPEAL TO PRIME MINISTER
AUCKLAND, March 30. Requests that the Prime Minister make a statement to advise the publie what was being done about the Waikato coal strike, and that all available coal be reserved for essential purposes, were made in a telegram sent to Mr. Frasei' today by the Mayor, Mr. AllUtn. The telegrata was sent after Mr. Alhim had received advice tha,t the men h'ad decided not to resume worki "I am advised that, following a meeting held today, represehtatives of Waikato miners decline to make any public statement exeept that work Will not be resumed tomorrow, ' ' said Mr. Allum in his telegram. "It seems to ine that oui- citizens who have no part in any dispute and who are innocent sufferers, are entitled to be infornted on what is happening. I trust that you are able to make a statement inf orming the public of the present position ahd I most strongly urge that, if the -men have declined to resume work immediately, all available coal shall be reserved for most essential purposes in order that citizetts may eontinue to have reasonable faeilities for light and heat in their homes and that induStry may eontinue. " Mr. Allum also sent a telegram to Mr. Fraser on Saturday asking for the Prime Minister 's personal intervention in the dispute. .
