OCTOPUS SEIZES CHILD
Entering the water for a paddle at Corsair Bay on Sunday afternoon in the vicinity of the bathing enclosure, a girl of 8 years was seized by a tentacle of an octopus, which attached itself to her ankle (states the Christchurch StarSun.) The child's screams brought her t'ather to the rescue. He dragged the child and the octopus out of the water, killing the octopus. Octopuses are rare visitors to the harbour, particulariy on the north shore. It is some years since they have been sighted and at least ten years since two were caught, on the opposite shore, .
