•" ' W5E^LilNGT0N, March .'27; Alt'eady experiencifig drastic power cuts, Hutt Valley is having its gas s'up'ply ra't'iOned for "two days this "week.. Today gas was cut off from 8 'a.m. to 1*1.30 a.m. a'nd 'from 1 p.m. to 4 p/m. The same cuts wi'll be made tomorrow. The chai'r'man of the Petone a'nd Lower llu't't Gas Board, Mr. H. F. Muir, sai'd tlie reason for the cuts was the same as that for the previous ones, the inabilit'y of the existing plant to' cope with the demand. The draw 'on the gas supply had been -greater because of the electricity shortage. However the saving; effected by rationing shoOld make possible a continuous supply for the next week. No rationing was plan ned for then. Within about six weeks the rebuilt retorts would be ready and the supply of gas for Hutt Valley should be'sufficien't.
