SOME PEOPLE STILL NOT COOPERATING

-Press Associatiofi

By T'elegfaph-

WELLINGTON, March. .'2-7. Danger of complete disconnection of electric power is being incurred by some Wellington residents, who, living in areas where the power is not cut off because of its use t'or essentifil services, »a're still using their lights. This iii'foTmatiOn Was given today by the manager of the City Council Electricity Deparfm'ent (Mr. L. B. Hut'ton), who said he had received a numbe'r of 'eomplaints about people using their. lights into the early hours of the morning. "'Oue eomplaint received today was of a noisy party that went o'n until about 3 a.rn. with lights blazing," said Mr. Hut'ton. "This cOuld have happened only in a'n area where the powtsT is left 011 for 'essential publii"services, suc'h as b'aking. Tlie people must realise that whether the power is 'on or not during aii advertised period of cut- off, 'they must not use it. If they do they are liable to complete disconnection of the power supply to their home — disconnection that could take plaee at the pole outside the house •?o that entry to the house would not ue necessary. " Alr. Ilutton said there had been a numbcr of co'mplain'ts, but for the most part people in areas containing essential services were cooperatmg and were not -using their lights. That made the offences of others more annoying anu could lead to more and more people ignoring the power cut periods in the affeas with power still on. This morning Mr. Hutton did 1101 'have the latest figures of power consumption-, but 'he was anxious about •the Weather. The sharp drop in tem•perature during the last few days has caused an intre'ase in consumption that will probably have to be curbed, as it is not thought less power has been used iii the last -24 hours than Toi other daily iperiods in which Wellington has not achieved the economy necessa'ry to bring consumption down by 20 per cent. for the week.
