HUTT BEAT HOKOWHENUA The Horowhenua College first eleven . suffered a defeat in their annual cricket match with the Hutt Valley Memorial Technical College Ln a two day, match on Wednesday and Thursday. Hutt opened the battihg and scored a '.sound 138, of which Renn er contfibuted 49 and Hewson 2:7. Bowling for Horowhenua, McClune took three wickets for 30 runs and Lambert three for 39. . College in their first innings made -86, Hermansson (22 not out) and Whelan (19) being the only batsmen tq get. among the runs. Swayland took five for 32 and Renner three for 19. Hutt added a further 110 runs in their second innings, Renner again making top score with 41. McClune took four wickets for 53 and Lambert three for 25. Horowhenua replied with an additional 77 runs,: Lambert (15) and Hermansson (13) being the top scoring batsmen. Swayland again returned excellent figures, taking five wickets for 18 runs. . Scots AIso Have a Win A Scots College junior eleven also defeated a Horowhenua College junior eleven in a two-day match. Horowhenua opened the batting and compiled 27 runs, Broadbelt being the top scorer with eight. Bowling for Scots, Henry took four wickets for 11 runs. Scots replied with 79, Hunt notching 26 and McElvoy and Stephenson 15 each. Satherley captured three wickets for 14. Horowhenua's second innings, yielded 72, Broadbelt again making top score with a good 37. Henry bowled well to take eight wickets for 19 runs. Scots compiled another 93 runs in their second effort, Hunt again making top • score with 28. Satherley captured nine wickets for 32 runs.
