FOUR NEW SWIMMING RECORDS

O- — LEVIN CLUB'S CHAMPIONSHIPS Four new club records were made at the Levin Amateur Swimming Club's championships. on Tuesday night. A good crowd witnessed the events, which were swum off smoothly. The weather was fine and the water temperature 69 degrees. Competition was keen and thre majority of the finishes were close and exciting. R. Denton set up a new record for the men's 100 yards freestyle, covering the distance in 69 secs; the previous record was 69 4-5 secs. He also equalled the record of 28 4-5 secs. for the 50 yards. The junior boy swimmer, R. Routley, clipped 4 4-5 secs. off the 33 1-3 yards championship, completing the distance in 24 secs. He also lowered the 66 2-3 yards from 61 to 59 4-5 secs. Miss J. McClune, by swimming the 33 1-3 yards championship in 23 1-5 secs, also set a new club record, the previous fastest time being 27 2-5 secs. The club champions for the 1946-47 season are as follows: — Junior boys: R. Routley. Junior girls: Miss J. McClune. Intermediate boys: R. Mungavin. Intermediate girls: Miss J. Phillips.
