WOMEN'S INSTITUTES

OTAKI'S ANNUAL MEETING The annual meeting of the Otaki Women's Institute was held in the Anglican Hall recently. Mrs. Lumley presided over a good attendance of members. Apologies were received from those absent. Following the usual practice at annual meetings, Mrs. Tabor, of the ,executive committee, then took charge. Owing to the unavoidable absence of the president elect and others, the election of officers was postponed. until next • meeting. The following ladies had been nominated for the committee and were duly elected: Mesdames Empson, McConville, Robertson, King, Townrow, Herbert, Mould, Ross, Mathie, Bowey, Turnbull and Miss Brown. Mrs. Tabor then gave an interesting talk on institute matters. Miss Brown's report on parcels for Britain was read. Altogether 20 parcels have been sent from the institute since July, 1946, and the afternoon's collection for same was £1 17s. The most points prize went to Mrs. Berry for best flower, to Mrs. Nairn for best shrub and Mrs. Ash--win for handcraft. During the afternoon Mrs. Lumley presented Mrs. Tabor with a bunch of asters. A dainty afternoon tea was. served by the hostesses, Mesdames Blake, Baker, Carkeek, Cooksley and Cross. Thc afternoon was then brought to a close with the singing of the National Anthcm.
