Edwards) replying to points raised during tlie I'oiniuons debate on the Xavy Estiniates, said tlie actual cost of altering the Vanguard to take the royal family to Soutli Africa was £170,(ioii. There had been the utinost economv in carrying ou the work. Mr. Blyton had earlicr declared that the litting out of the Vanguard for the royal voyage seemed to have caused some consternation in Portsmouth. Mr. Edwards said \vhate\er ship tlie royal family had gone in, it wouhl certainly have cost some nioney. lle thouglit the vast majority of the nation would agree that tlie journey should have been made in Britain's linest battleship.
