MAN INJURED; SMASH AT OHAU CROSSING
Attempting to negotiate the Ohau railway crossing at 3 p,m. yesterday, a small rental car pollided with a goods train proceeding to Wellington. The driver, who was the sole occupant of the vehicle, sustained a compound f racture of the scull, concussion and shock, and was eonveyed to the Palmerston North Hospitai by ambulance. T|ie injured man was: Tj-evor Bradley, a young ma|i heiieved! to reside in Rintoul Street, Wellington. His parents are resident in Christchurch. ^ J The car, which was apprqachinj from the south, struck the cqwcatcher of the engine and was thrown down a small bank, eventually landing on its wheels. It was extensively damaged. The train had just lef t the Ohau station and had not gained normal speed. The crossing is a compulsory stop, but is not fitted. Wfth lights or bells. At the time of the ^ accident a party of workmen were engaged in erecting wig- wag signals. The district traffic inspector, police and a doctor were quiekly on the scene, following a telephqne 6 call from the Levin railway statipn, but it was almost an hour before an ambulance was available fypm Otaki. Mr. Bradley's condition was reported at mid-day to be satisfactory, though he is still suffering from concussion.
