MORE TROUBLE IN COAL MINES.
Received Tuesday, 8.25 p.m. SYDNEY, March 18. Coal production on the south coast and at all open cut mines in the State, is threatened by dispute in which key mine workers are involved. The State executive of the Eederated Engine Drivers' and Eiremen's Association has aiinouuced that it will call nienibers out from open cut mines unless weekly hir- 1 ing is reintroduced, wages are increas- 1 ed 25 per cent and three weeks' annual j leave and a siniilar amount of annual j sick leave, are granted. About 800 inem bers of the union are employed in mines in the State. Members of the lllawarra branch of the Deputies and Shotlirers Association on the South Coast threaten to strike unless their claims for improved coin pensation for dust victims are conceded. This action would paralyse the soutli coast mines which produce 50,000 tons of coal vveekly. Union otticials say thai the strike is directed against the Government and not against the owners.
