— Annual Gehefal Meeting The thirteenth 'arinhal gerieral meeting of the Levin Ybuhg Fkrmbrs' Club, the first. to be formed in the North Island, was held recently befoiri 'an enthusiastic attendahce. The chairman's report detailed ■ how the elub's aetivities had covered a very intbre'stirig and edUcational field, including vgluable leetures and field days at Massey Agriculturah College and Wallaceville Animal Research Station. In this cbming year, , besides lecturbs •and field days, tt is ^hbped to arrahgje a pibnic at Kapiti Island. ; The balance sheet for the year "showed ihe club to be in a financially sound position. ; The election of officers then tobk place and resulted as follows: — Club chairman: Mr. M. Rolston; vice-ehairman: Mr. S. Gimblett; •senior advisory member: Mr. H. ,J. Lancaster; secretaf y-trea'surer ; Mr. D. Kilsby; advisory members: Mes'srs. C. Webb, C. Lewis and W. Penny; eommittee: Messrs. R. Speedy, H. Marshall and D. Newell. The young farmers' club mbvement offers a wider knowledge of the application bf modern farm-. ing methods, and an appreciatibn of the importance and fullness of rural life. It makes available through ,lectures, demonstrationb, stock judging and crop competitions the knowledge of agrieultural experts and research workers generally. ii provides educatiorial weeks in the larger cities, agrieultural weeks in provincial centres, organised tours through farming districts, discussions and debates on a wide range of non-political and non-sectarian subjects, and the proper conduct of meetings are featured in all clubs. The movement oners certain scholarships, tenable at the agrieultural. colleges, It pfovides opportunity 'for social and recreational aetivities, and for all the valuable asscciations « with young people having similar interests. Its methods of organisation and selfgovbrnment provide opportunity for the development of the spirit of self-reliance, initiative and confidence, and set forth the ideiil of community service. Every yoiing ihan making farming his career or associated with the industry should be a member oi the Y.F.C., for if he wishfes to progress he must keep abreast of the changing times. The next hionthly me'eting of thb Levin Club will be held on April 9.
