NATIONAL SAVING
The ' ' highlights ' ' of National Savings activities in the Palmerston North district last week was the registering of annual quota successes by Manakau, Pahiatua and Rangiotu. These latest, aeiiievemeipta bring the total to 23 of the 24/.' quota/ [ to-whs.. in tha,^ist;4bt vvhich have oVkained or exceedM' ^he , allotted quotas for the yeat which ends on March 31. Manakau hs effort is all the more meritorious iu that an annual quota success has uot previously been recorded by this township. Tokomaru is the only place which has not obtained the full year's quota, and in keeping with the aim of the Palmerston North National Savings Committee of having everv town in the district fill its quota, an appeal is made to residents of Tokomaru to- make an investment not later than the end of this nionth. As the ,term of investment is now compara-tiv-ely short—-deposits made this month become repayable on June 30, 1949 — and with giit-edged security at 3 per cent. interest, there should be every chance of obtaining the required amount of £4.15. The district total received last week was £3766 11s 2d. Fo-remost among the contributing towns were Pahiatua" £1075 10s 2d, Manakau £320,. Woodville £270 3s 5d, Dannevirke £269 6s, Halcombe £215 2s and Rangiotu £108 4s. The eity's figure was £1190 2s Sd.
