OTAKI TROTTING CLUB

The Otaki Trotting Club, through its president, Mr. J. Bebbington, oi: Levin, has appealed to conference for a one-day permit. He said the club was formed in 1936 and had non-totalisator meetings in 1938 and 1939 on the Otaki Maori Racing Club's course. These meetings were keenly supported by people from far afield. The nearest trotting clubs were at Hutt and Palmerston North. • The club felt it could not progress without a permit. Mr. Heenan to Mr. C. S. Thomas, senior counsel for the New Zealand Trotting Conference : Assuming there was an inerease in the number of trotting days, would the conference 1 give preference to the nontotalisator clubs such as this one, which have battled along the hard way Mr. Thomas: I don't think there is any question about that. Of course all the circumstances would have to be taken into consideration. I know how sympathetic the conference is to these clubs, some of which have only been able to carry on because the members have taken off their coats and done the work themselves. " - '
