OTAKI LICENSING BENCH
NEW COMMITTEE MEETS The first meeting of the newlyformed Licensing Committee for the Otaki district was held at Levin Courthouse on Friday, when the ; chairman, Mr. A. M. Goulding, S.M., i in welcoming two new mem;bers, Messrs. D. J. Gardiner and J. ! Purvis, stated that the licensing district had been changed, Foxtor and Shannon hotels . now being | apart from the Otaki district, while Trentham and Lower Hutt had Ibpen included in it. Mr. Goulding i stated that it was hoped that 'reports from the new district would j be as good as 'tliose in th'b' past". i Other members present were j Messrs. J. W. Rimmer, T. O'Rourke and H. Nicolson, members of the iformer committee. ! Police reports on the yarious ! hotels in the district were most jfavourable, there being no com'plaints, while it twas stated that l substantial alterations and additions were being made to the Paekakariki Hotel. These, it was pointed out, would be beneficial, both to the travelling public and the staff. The health officer's repprt on the matter was most favourable. In connection with the Wellington Racing. Club, whose buildings are now under the control of the Otaki Licensing Bench, it was stated -that reports in the past had been satisfactory. It was decided that a charge of £3 be made for each booth, whereas £2 had been charged in tlie past, but this was subject to the limit of £30, it being estimated that here wero about fifteen booths in all. Letters of appreciation for seryiccs rendered while members of he committee are to be scnt to : Messrs. R. O. Hornblow and W. Moynihan, v/ho are now ineligible.
