PLANS FOR EASTER TRAINS

WELLINGTON, Mar. 14. Tentative arrangements for an augmented train service to meet the anticipated heavy Easter passenger traffic were announced today by the Ministei of Railway, Hon. R. Semple. He said that, although coal stocks- were still far from satisfactory, a considerable saving could be etfected by the cancellation oi numerous goods trains. 'Provided fur ther supplies of coal canie forward as .expected, it was hoped the programme envisaged could be put into operation. A tentative programme is for three trains each way between Wellington and Auckland on Wednpsday, April 2, six on Thursday and two on Good Fri day. For returning holiday travellers there would be four trains frtfm Auckland and three from Wellington. An additional train » from Wellington will make connectioii with the da'ylight trip of the steamer express from Lyttelton: On the W ednesday three trains will run each way between Wellington aird Auckland. In the Auckland-Whangarei-, Auck land-Botorua, and Ailckland-Taneatua areas, expresses - which at present run three days a week will run daiiy from Wednesday, April 2, to Wednesday,. April 9, inclusive. The same ar range ments will apply" in . fespect of the Wellington-New Plymouth and Wel-lington-Gisborne areas, where the ex presses at present run three days weokly. In .addition to these services, nighi trains will run between Wellington and Napier 011 Easter Thursday. lleliei trains will be provided. in various areas on selected days. In the Soutii Island expresses wiJ. run daily between Invercargill and Christchurch from Wednesday, April 2 to Wednesday, April 9, inclusive, with additional trains 011 selected days. / Tlu Christchurch-Greyiuouth express wib also run daily between the same dates. Provision has also been made for the running of additional passenger trains in .the Christchurch-Picton and Dun edin-Invereargill areas. The Minister said it was not pro posed to disturb the presejit arrange ments for the reservation of seats and sleeping berths where by applications for such accommodation could be madt at allotting stations up to 14 days ahead of tlie date of travel and 16 days in advance at a non-allotting station.
