Received Saturday, 11.15 a.m. LAHORE, March 14. It is officially stated that the situation in some Punjab border areas is "extremely serious." A crowd of more than 2000 attacked and set fire to villages in the Jhelum district, despite hot hre from troops and the police. Troops were able to save most of the villages. Troops and the police engaged raiders in a two-hour battle near Campbellpur. Amritsar and the surrounding areas remained a state of "considerable nervousness." It is officially announced that 250 were killed and 800 houses destroyed by fire during the recent communal rioting in Multan. Fortyseven villages beyond Multan are still burning.
