meeting oe institute The Horowhenua branch of the Mew Zealand Educational Institute aeld its monthly meeting at the Levin School on Thursday, when jhe president, Mrs.' Rough, prfesided Dver an attendance of thirty members. After partaking of afternoon ■:ea, the bfafich welcomcd the principal of Horowhenua College, Mr. lST. A. Byrne, who was" the guest speaker. Mr. Byrne gave an interesting iddress on the follow-up from Dfimary to post-primary education, wherein he stated that closer jo-opefarion among the teachers of both sections would ultimately :ead to a better uhderstahding of ,he aims and requirements of education today. It wa's eSsbntial that primary teachers should know what the post-primary teachers oxp'ected from students, so that satisfactory Classification ■ in the various courses would evehtuate. Similarly, the post-primary staifs chbuld understand thb syllabus of ;he primary schoois in order to appreciate the foundatibns upoh which they had: to build their subcequent teaching. A question period followed and cev-eral' ihteresting aSpects of modem education were di'scussed. Mr. Syrne was tendered tnanks for his' constructive remarks, after which he extended an invitation to primary teachers to visit Horowhenua College. Mr. H. F. McClune, headmaster of the Levin Primary School, reciprocated by inviting members of the college staff to visit the primary school. During the session on general business, grave concern was expressed by members over the hopeleSsly inadequate supplies of infant readers. It was felt that the institute should approaCh the Education Department concerning the matter. After brief discussion on other matters the meeting c'oncluded.
