BLACK MARKET FOR OATS?

CHRISTCHURCH, March 11. A large-scale investigation into the alleged blaek market in gartons and other white oats, is pending according to a statement by the district oiiicer of the Industries and Commerce Department, Mr. H. F. Larsen, who said it was not the first year in which eomplaints of alleged black marketing in milling oats had arisen at this period of the season. Preliminarv investigations had been made last year, he said, but unfortunately it was difficult to obtain sufficient evidenee to warrant legal proeeedings. An order fixes the growers' price of white oats at 4s a bushel (free on rail), sacks extra, and it is believed that there has been dissatisfaction with this price!
