OTAKI DEFEAT WERAROA: The Otaki Tenhis -Club. met Weraroa on Saturday and scored, an. easy win after games which were most enjoyable and interesting. Otaki remains the only unbeaten j teamain the competition, and with only one match to play 'and four points ahead of the next team, they are assured of championship honours. Results are as follows, Otaki players being mentioned first:— Men's singles: C. G. Atmore beat D. White 9—6, B. Ryder beat L. Palmer 9 — 4, B. Rhodes lost to H: Williams 7 — 9, Father Reader beat J. Lomas 9 — 4. ■ Ladies' singles: Mrs. Bell beat Mrs. Williams 7—1, Miss V. Taylor beat Mrs. Palmer 7—3, Miss M. Taylor beat Mrs. Mackay 7—3, Miss B. D'Ath beat Mrs. Brand 7 — 0. Men's doubles: Atmore and Ryder beat White and Palmer 9 — 6, Rhodes and Father Reader beat Williams"" and Lomas 9 — 3. Ladies' doubles: Mrs. Bell and Miss V. The Manawatu-Hutt Valley representative game, played at the Hutt during the weekend, resulted •n an easy win for Hutt. Mrs. Bell, of the Otaki Club, won her three matches in straight sets, easily JefeatiYig Mrs. Kennedy in the singles, 6 — 1, 6 — 4. It . is to be regretted that the Manawatu Association had not arranged with Hutt Valley to play one of their Tunnerley Casket members to oppose Mrs. Bell. It is the intention of Mrs. Bell to compete in the Maori championships at Ngaruawnia at the end of the month.
