WELLINGTON, JViar. 11. The M'inister of Education made ro feren.ce today to the work of the consultative comniittee set up to con yider various departmcntal examina tions in trade subjects such as en gineering, buildjiig construction, plumb ing, electrical engineering, motoi engineering, painting and dccorating and the like. The chairmau of Uie com mittee is Mr. E. Caradus, elfie f inspector of post-primary schools. The Minister stressed the necessiU for the national examination system in trade subjects legislating for good standards in all.trades. In a few trades, but not in many, these already existco but in view of the reeent amendnientto the Apprcntices' Act and to tln impending estahlishment of apprentice ghip committecs in all trades, tln Governrnent Avas anxious that tln" national system of. trade certificates should be available in all trades an 1 that these certifieates should be of such a standard as to ensure readv recogni tion in this country and abroad. I'o-> sibilities in these directions weiv already being explored by Ihe coinmit tee which held- its initial meeting las" week.
