Personal. Mr. H. T. Elderton, who has been on holiday in Otaki, returned to Wellington yesterday. Miss Spooner, a frequent visitor to Otaki, is at present in Foxton on holiday, but will return to her home at Manaia on Monday. The death has occurred at Foxton of Mr. George Rough, in his ninetieth year. Deceased was born at Kemnay, Aberdeenshire, Scotland in 1858 and, at the age of fifteen, he accompanied his patents to New Zealand. Mrs. F. A. H. Neate, who has been a patient at Amara Private Hospital, Levin, has returned to her home at Otaki, benefited by the treatment reccived. Mrs. Neate, howeve'r, is still confined to her bed. The death occurred in the Palmerston North Hospital last week of a well-known and highly respected Foxton residcnt in the person of Mrs. Emily Robinson. Deceased was a true- Foxtonian: born, educated, married and resident there all her iife. She was educated. at the State School and married the late Mr. Frederick ("Trooper") Robinson in 1904. Football Revived A football club has been formed at Oroua Downs, where the game has been in recess since 1938. Twenty-four intending players were present at the meeting. An effort is to be made to re-form the Te Kawau sub-union.
Cycling Appreciated The Foxton Hcrald states: "The spectators appreciated the excellent racing provided by - Otaki riders at the sports meeting on Thursday evening, and the local competitors will, undoubtedly, derive considerable benefit from • their visit." Following are the results of events in which Otaki riders competed: — Half-mile cycle: Richardson (Foxton) 1, C. Wilton (Otaki) 2, D. Smith 3. Two mne cycle: D. Smith (Otaki) 1, C. Wilton (Otaki) 2, E. Mathie (Otaki) 3. The Otaki riders again hope to visit Foxton tomorrow. R.S.A. Reunion Some 500 returned soidiers attended the R.S.A. re-union at Hastings last week, when a most enjoyaole - time was spent. The arrangemdnts were carried out in an efficient manner and visitors were especially catered for. Besides the dinner, which was on an elaborate scale, the visitors were taken round the district in buses to see the many places of interest. ' Wives of the veterans were taken to the pictures. Among the South » African veterans present was Mr. Bert Penney, of Otaki. Fire Damage As ine result of the fire in a wash-house and adjacent dwelling at Otaki Beach on Sunday morning, Mr. M. Giddens will be a hsavy ioser, only £50 being allowed on the wash-house. and its contents, which included a new copper. It is estimated that nearly £300 worth of damage was done to the house, but had it not been for the fine efforts of the fire brigade the whole dwelling and contents would have been destroyed. When the occupiers of the house retired on Saturday night there was not the slightest sign of fire, and it was not till nearly 4.30 a.m. that the fire bi'oke out. '
