NEW OFFICERS ELECTED The annual meeting of the Poroutawhao Women's Institute Was held last Saturday. Mrs. Spencer, the visiting executive member, was weicomed and three new members enrolled. A very enjoyable community; sing, conducted by Mrs. Tait, o'pened proceedings. At the conclusion of the routine business Mrs. Scott presented the points prizes for the year. The winnerS were: — Senior: Mrs. Carle 1, Miss Carle 2, Mesdames Vickers and Graham 3 (equal). Juniors: Miss Beryl Carle 1, Miss Scott 2, Miss Jamieson 3. Best shrub: Mrs. Hannam. Best bloom: Miss Scott. Best vegetable: Mrs. Hannam. The'following who had held office duri'ng the y'ear w'e're presented with flowers: Mesdames Penriy, Tait, Tabor, Carle and Hannam. The retiring secretary. received a beautiful posy of red flowers. Before vacating the chair, the retiring president was presented with a gift as a mark of esteem. Mrs. Spencer then gave an inspiring talk on the origin and aims of the institute movement, touching on many points of interest. At the conclusion of her address, Mrs. Spencer annouhced the names of ,he new committee members. They were as follows: — President: Mrs. Carle; committee: Mesdames Penny, Scott, Speirs, Arcus, Hannam, Vickers and Tait. Mrs. Spencer congratulated the new president, who then took the chair. Mrs. Spencer was the recipient of a lovely bouquet of mauve flowers. Mrs. Carle, the new president, thanked all for electing her for the ensuing year. The hostesses were Mesdames Tait and Did and Miss Old.
