BAND DISPLAY IN OTAKI

PLEASING MUSICAL AFTERNOON An outstanding display was given by the combined bands at Otaki on Sunday. F.ive bands were ; on parade and they played as the ; first item of the day the march,.! "Invercargill." This was very stirring and much appreeiated 'by the public. It was followed by the Foxton Silver Band in the march, "Slaburn." The Levin Municipal Band played the hymn test, "New Rochdale." The Foxton Junior Band; comprising of boys who have been playing some six months only, gave a very flne rendering of a waltz. This was followed by the Levin Boys' Band iri a hymn and the march, "Quartermaster's Store." The Otaki Silver Band was the next on the dias and they also .chose as their item a march, "Humber." The girls' marching team "Textiles," of Foxton, gave an exhibition of their open competition march, accompanied by the Foxton Silver Band, which then played the fantasia, "Balmoral," followed by the test selection by the Levin Municipal Band. The marching teams of Premier and Broadway, of Shannon, staged a combined display which was a credit to all concerned.The Otaki Silver again responded and the improvement shown in

their playing and numbers in the last month was astounding. The Premier marching team per- ! formed a competition march, which ■ was well received. Next came the ■ quickstep by the Levin Municipal i Band. This item will be performed i at the provincial contest at Pal- 1 merston North on March 29. It was ! well applauded and the good wishes i of the crowd and bandsmen present j were given. ■ | A further display was given by the Broadway marching team, and ! the last item of the day, "Lead j Kindly Light, followed by the National Anthem by the massed bands, brought a very successful day to a close. Donations amounting to £25 were colleeted on the ground. The next display will be at Foxton on April 14.
