N.Z. BOWLING ASSOCIATION

HALF-YEARLY MEETING The half-yearly meeting of the New Zealand Bowling Association was held recently: The president, Mr. T. Lock, occupied the chair and there was an excellent attendance. As regards the proposed visits to Palmerston North of green superintendents and greenkeepers from ohe various bowling cenures to go through a. two or three days.' course of 1 lectures and practical demonstrations on green work, Mr. Bruce Levy, in an address to the meeting, explained that no charge would be made for such instruction. The International Bowling Board wrote regarding the possibility of a ceam of bowlers from New Zealand visiting Britain" during the season 1948 and renewing pre-war invitations, and asking for an early reply. Also, the advisability of. setjing up a system whereby teams would visit in rotation and that unofficial teams be treated in accordance with the amended laws of the game, which provide that no team of bowlers visiting overseas or the British Isles shall be recognised by the I.B.B. unless it is first sanctioned and rccommendcd by the National Association to which the members are affiliated. It was decided to refer the letter1' to the

annual meeting and that the I.B.B. be advised accordingly. The Tourist Department wrote regarding the proposed tour of New Zealand of a party of bowlers from Britain, but as there is nothmg definite at present regarding che proposed tour the matter is held over, the Tourist Department to be- advised accordingly. At the last meeting of the Wel-' lington Bowling Council, -Mr. M. Casey, stated that New Zealand would continue to play under its own rules. but there were certain policy adjustments on which New Zealand was compromising for the generai benefit -of the game. Strictly spe'aking, he did not think ihere would be much difference in the play (except probably in test matches) of the International Bowling Club game. He had suggested that the council should obtain sufficient copics from the I.B.B. to be despatched in sufficient time for councillors to peruse them before the next annual meeting was held. It was decided that the matter be ; referred to the next annual meet- ! ing. . . •_
