POLICE WEDDING AT OTAKI MAORI CHURCH
MORRISSEY — CALWELL A wedding of considerable interest to police circles was solemnised at the old historic Otaki Maori Church on March 1, by the Rev. paora Temuera, whcn Roa, the only daughter of Constable and Mrs. W. A. Calwell, was married to Edward Arthur Morrissey, of Rotorua. The bride is a constable of the Women 's Division of the New Zeaiand Police Force stationed at Wellington, and the bridegroom is also a member of the poiice force. ■l'he young eouple intend to make .neir future home in Christchurch. The bride, escorted by her father, was piped to and irorn the Church by Piper Watson, of the Wellington Police Pipe Band. She made a charming picture in her frock of brocaded satin, which featured a full skirt, high neckline, with Peter Pan collar, and tight-fitting sleeves pointed to thc wrists. Her veil, which was held in place by orange blossoms, was lent by i'riends, and she carried a shower bouquet of St. Joseph lilies, carnations, gypsophila and maidenhair fern. The bridesmaid, Miss Allison Jenkins, vore a frock of pink organdie, and hcr bouquet was of pink tiger lilies, carnations, sweet peas and gypsophila, and she wofe matching flowers in her hair. Mr. Davis Calwell, the bridc's cousin, acted as best man. As the bride left the church she was presented with two lucky horseshoes by her two nephews, Ronald and John Calwell. The ceremony was performed by Mr. Temuera with that wonderful dignity typical of the best in the ancient Maori culture. A particularly jolly and informal reception was held at the Jubilee Hotel. where the dining room was beautifully decorated with a profusion of ferns and flowers. The bride's table was an outstanding example of artistry in white. Tb gucsts were received by the bride's mother, who wore a navy suit, relieved with white, and a spray of red roses. At the reception. solos were sung by Mrs. Gower and by Miss Margaret Irving, of Levin. The usual. and some unusual toasts were honoured in traditional fashion, and the singing of "Auld Lang Syne" ended a very pleasing function. The police force was well represented and there were guests from Auckland. Eltham. Wellington and Christchurch. Telegrams were receivcd from all parts of New Zealar.d. When the young couple left for their honeymoon in the North, the bride was wearing a model frock of grey, relieved with pink, and black accessories.
