WATER SNAKES FOUND

WHANGAREI, Mar. 7. Two snakes were discovered by a party of Maoris in, a field of grass near the beaeli at Wrhankaruru South on Monday. The snakes, alarmed by the Maoris wallang through the grass, were first seen when they raised their heads to peer at the intruders. WJiile the Maoris kept the snakes in view oue of the party got a shotgun and blew the head off one of the reptiles. The other vanished into the grass' and has not since been seen. The snake killed has been identified as a water 'snake eommonly seen on rocks in' tropical waters.
