VALEDICTORY EVENING
^ SGT. RANSFIELD HONOURED There was a large and reprcsen,auve .gathering oi members of the j.ocal Maori people at ihe Raukawa entertaiiiment hall on Tuesday evening to say farewell to Sergeant J. Ransfield, R.N.Z.A.F., who is leaving for service in the Pacific viands. The evening's entertainmer t conlistecl of dancing, both modern and old time, interspersed with oiigs. items by local talent, and comniunity singing under ihe direction of thc evening's M.C., Mr. B. Carkeek. Pnor to the supper adjournment the Rev. Paora Temuera welcomed the guest of the evening in the usual native customary manner, following which he thanked those present for attending to do honour to Sergeant Ransfield. Though the war over, with victory to the Allied nations, mcn were still rcquired for ■he various armed To'rces. He wished' Sergeant Ransfield good luck and on behalf of the Maori people presented him with a handsome gift, which, he said, carried with it all their best wishes. The recipient suitably replied and •hanked all for the honour and tributes paid him during the evening. | Accompaniments and dance music were supplied by Miss Weno Tahiwi, and extras by Miss M. Ransfield and Mr. Ben Cassidy.
