MAKERUA AREA FOR SOLDIER SETTLEMENT

N. Campbell) at a sitting ui Palmerston North yesterday vhen consent was sought by Mrs. E. (lower, of Wellington, for the sale of 231 aercs, 3 roods and 12 perches at Makerua to W. N. Norwood, of Wellington, at a con sideration of £5336. Mr. W. J. Beveridge, for the Crowu. said that the purchaser was not a returned serviceman. The land had been reported upon as suitable for soldier settlement. The committee would be asked to assess the basie value of the land and reeomniend its use for the settlement of returned servicemen. The Crown did not oppose the consideration and had no objection to the land being used for soldier settlement. He t-old the committee that. the purchaser, who is a son df Sir Charles Norwood, would not oppose the land being taken for soldier settlement, bui if the committee found it unsuitable for that purpose the purchaser asked to be heard on the question of undue aggregation. The committee 's decision was as stated.
