PALATIAL HOUSES WITHOUT PERMITS
Received Wednesdav, 8.25 p.m. SYDNEY, March 5. Tlie action of carpenters and brielclayers in walking off jobs wliicli tliey consider not in abcordanee with the restrictive Icgislation, has resulted in an investig xtion by the Department oi Labour of a number of building projects which do not comply with the building regulations. In orde^ to conserve materials, perniits are necessary for alterations or eonstructional work and no new house must exeeed 1250 square feet. Offieials have found three large homes recently completed on the north shore without pennits. One covers 3200 feet in floor area and has a tastefully designed swimming pool. In another case plans approved by the local council have been exceeded in every detail. The arehiteets, builders and owners will be prosecuted and those who have broken the law are liable to a iin-e of £500 and/or a year's gaol.
