OTAKI'S RAINFALL

— NEARLY FOUR INCHES FOR THE MONTH Otaki's rainfall for the- month of February, as recorded by Mr. F. H. Critchley, was 3.78 inches. Rain fell on nine days, the highest fall being on the 14th (2.65 inches). There was a sharp earthquake at 9.40 p.m. on the 17th. During tlie severe southerly, which lasted from the 13th to the 15th, the temperature dropped very considerably, and snow fell on the ranges. Otherwise beautiful summer weather prevailed during the month. For February last year the rainfall was only i.28 inches, with rain falling on six days.
