ANNUAL SCHOOL FETE
EFFORT RAISES OVER £100 Gaily bedecked with flags and bunting, the Levin Primary School grounds presented an attractive sight on Tuesday when the annual fcte was held., The function was an outstanding sj|ccess_anq resulted in a financial retum' of over £100. This money will be devoted to help augment the school's referenee library, and for the purchase of supplementary readers. Much -of the produce on sale was derived from the school's garden, the balance being made up from contributions by parents and friends. That a shortage of fruit and vegetables exists. was apparent from the keen demand for these items. The vegetables were almost sold out by mid-day. Teachers and pupils were in charge of the various stalls, and they carricd out their duties with professional zeal and assurance, The team room, staffed by the girls of Form II, was a popular rendezvous. A donation of £3 was received from the Levin Rotary Club and Ihis was gratefully. acknowledged by the headmastqr, Mr. H. F. McClune, who also thanked all other friends and parents who had contributed to the succcss of the function by contributing goods or money. Results of competitions held during the day were as follows: — Beryl Meynell (cooking), Kirsty McLean (pikelets) , Rosalif fAitchison (first for scones) , Prin^'nce Crozier (second for scones) , Mesdames C. Melville, R. Cole, W. Wong ghee, B. Benjamin and A. Bonner, Misses Celia Dome and J. Ransom, and Messrs. R. Pene, W. L. Bryant, H. G. Mackay, H. McGwire, W. Duguid, F. P. Mark, F. O. Malcolm, W- Mearing, p. AllQn and N. Scotson. .
