LOCAL PERFORMANCES AT N.R.A. MEETING

Five members of the Levin Defence Rifle Club attended the National Rifle Assdciation's championships last week. The club is prpud of the fact that although only five representatives went, three of them (R. R. Rolston, S. C. Aanensen and S. L. Lumsden) gained places in the coveted King's Fifty. In the teams event the Levin Club was also well to the fore. The long rahge teams match resulted: Ashhurst D.R.G (639) 1, Levin (S. C. Aanensen 133, S. L. Lumsden 130, P. R. Catley 126, R. R. Rolston 126,^ J. G. Horn 122, total 637) 2. Twenty-three teams competed. Of the 26 teams which competed in the rifle' club champipn teams match for the Petone Hhield, the Levin team was fifth with 2,003 points, 33 points behind the leading team, Opaki No. 1. Individual scpres wero as fojlows: S. C. Aanensen 411, S. L. Lumsden 409, R. R. Rolston 406, P. R. Catley 389 and J. G. Horn 389. In the champion team shoot for the District Challenge Shield, the only match in which coaching was permitted, the Levin team gamed seventh place with 479 points. Mr. A. A. Ford, of Invercargill, was the coach. Individual scores were: J. G. Horn 99, R. R. Rolston 99, S. L. Lumsden 95, P. R. Catley 94 and A. C. Aanensen 92. Thirty-three teams competed. The Levin team also Shot well at ':he,W.R.A. championships, P. R. Catley qualifying for the final shoot at 900 yards.
