Personal _ _ Mr. F. O. Burtf, formerly of Rotorua, commenced his duties as headmaster of the local school on, Monday. School Swimming Sports The Shannon School will be holding swimming sports at the school baths on Thursday after - noon, commencing at 1.30 p.m. An excellent programme has been arranged and as the committee is arranging for parents to be present it is expected that a successful afternoon will be held. R.S.A. Subscription Due The secretary of the Shannon branch of the R.S.A., Mr. E. J. Gunning, advised members at the general meeting of the branch on Saturday evening that subscriptions for the 1947-48 financial year were now being accepted. Mr. Gunning also pointed out that to correspond with the branch's financial year, which ends on March 31, all Review subscriptions will expire with the March issue, If members still want the Review posted to them, the only way to get it is to pay their branch subscriptions promptly. The Shannon branch is a fully-contributing branch and the Review subscription is covered in'the branch subscription. Enjoyable Bance A combined committee from the local cricket club and the girls' marching teams held a dance in the Druids' Hall on Monday evening. Although the gathering was not as successful as it was expected, a sum will be available to carry out improvements to the local domain. Dancing was enjoyed until a late hour, the music being provided by the local orchestra. Extras were played by Messrs E. Barber and P. Ward (Levin) . A number of competition dances were held, the winners being Miss G. Chester and Mr. W. Boyle, and Miss J. Woodmass and Mr. J. Baker. The mystery prizes were won by Mr. A. Smith and Miss A. Pedersen. The ladies of the committee, assisted by a williilg band of helpers, provided a most enjoyable supper.
